I’ve been stockpiling news clippings in my Notebook, and not blogging about them. Here’s a few off the top:
In England, mysterious stone heads have been left on people’s doorsteps, for no known reason, “leaving the recipients intrigued and confused.” Of course, if this had happened in Massachusetts, people would be calling it a terror hoax, and authorities would be hell-bent on arresting somebody. The moral of the story is: vacation in England, not Boston.
On the other hand, there is such a thing as an illegal book in the UK. A child was arrested for “collection or possession of information useful in the preparation of an act of terrorism“. A crime so broadly worded that a book on how to drive would qualify, really. The information in question is The Anarchist Cookbook, which the UK Amazon store sells. It disturbs me to no end, the idea that possessing information can be considered a crime.
Last but not least, you’re just a sack of bacteria. It seems to be hot news this week that we’ve finally discovered the use for the appendix. I wasn’t nearly as interested in that as I was in the off-hand comment made in the CNN article about it, that “There are more bacteria than human cells in the typical body.” So if you’re feeling outnumbered, you probably are. Even if you’re all by yourself.
