Unreasonable expectations

Management decided a couple months (or more) ago that the project will reach a certain milestone by June 1st. Last week they laid most of the workforce off for 2 weeks. Today they are still expecting to hit that milestone on June 1st. I want to know what plane of existence you have to live on where changing your manpower doesn’t affect your target dates. When I was asked to agree to this date, there was no indication of layoffs, and I was told there would be 5 engines run from start to finish per day.  Now they aren’t running any engines at all, except for whatever we drag through the system ourselves. Not that they were actually running 5 a day all the way through before the layoff…
