Which is weirder?

CNN is carrying a WPTZ story about PETA asking Ben & Jerry’s to make their ice cream with human milk. CNN is also running a poll on whether or not you would eat ice cream made from human milk. Predictably, most people (90%) say “no”. But then I got to thinking, “why not?”

Seriously… we may think it’s gross to drink a strange woman’s breast milk – or anybody’s breast milk after a certain age – but isn’t it much worse to drink a strange cow’s breast milk? What is wrong with us as a species that makes us find the breast milk of another animal preferable to our own?

For that matter, I think we’re the only species that consumes milk at all after adulthood…

We are the only species to consume milk after puberty, which is why a good portion of the human population is lactose intolerant. The only group of people which usually isn’t lactose intolerant are the decedents of Early Europeans. Decedents of Early Africans and Early Asians are at a much higher rate lactose intolerant.

We also decided that cows milk was somehow good even though its purpose was to bring a ~30lb baby to ~400lbs PLUS very quickly. Whereas the fat content of human milk has the purpose to bring a ~7lb baby to ~50lbs in the same amount of time.

    Just saying.

And really, drinking human breast milk would probably be better than cows milk as most lactating females are taking hormone injections and a cocktail of antibiotics. Hopefully not any cocktails either!

typing mistake in the last night:
“most lactating females are taking hormone injections” should, of course, be “most lactating females AREN’T taking hormone injections”

Not everyone has a problem with human breast milk.
    For instance.

they could even pre-flavor the breast milk (which is to be used for ice cream), by feeding the women specific foods.

hmm… “rum-raisin”… “buttered scotch”… “mead me in st. louis”… yum!

and they’ll need quality testers, too! where do I sign up?

    Oh for the love of…

I get real fucking tired of PETA and their whole “don’t be cruel to animals”, which is a euphemism for being cruel to human beings in place of animals. Sure, so we don’t milk cows for ice cream. Where does the milk come from? If you’re a PETA member, it obviously comes from lactating females. I’m sure every lactating female out there will sign right up to not only feed their kids, but also get hooked up and start lactating away for Ben and Jerry’s ice cream. I haven’t experienced lactation personally, but from the accounts I’ve heard, it’s not much fun for the woman.

So, brilliantly, we trade one form of cruelty for another, even though most cows I’ve seen don’t seem to mind being milked (unless you squirt their hind hooves. Then they REALLY get pissed. Learned that one at the Michigan State Fairgrounds, thankyouverymuch). Just another example of how PETA and the Animal Liberation Front they support don’t feel that human life is sacred compared with animal life.

I suggest PETA stick to being more like the humane society ,and leave the monkey-butter out of my ice cream.
