It is so painfully obvious that politicians lie

I’ll be picking on just one example here, but I’m quite sure they all do it to one degree or another. What baffles me with this report is the obviousness of the lie, and the willingness of some people to believe (or at least overlook) it. Rudy Giuliani tells two whoppers when he says he can end illegal immigration in three years (per CNN). How would he end it? “By employing the same police tactics he used to reduce the crime rate as New York mayor.” He ended crime in New York City? No, he reduced it. So the same tactics will reduce illegal immigration. No, they will end it completely. Whatever. It’s an obvious lie, but it’s what the voters want to hear.
Next up, same article, talks about his desire to “institute a tamper-proof ID system”. Wow. Tamper-proof? Really? Has anybody in the history of the world ever made anything tamper-proof? I’m amazed. Rudy truly is the smartest individual in the world if he knows how to end illegal immigration and make systems tamper-proof. At least he’s smart enough to tell us lies we want to believe.

The article overlooks the fact that he’s un-electable. If his Democratic leanings weren’t enough to keep most Republican voters away, his friendship with the molesting priest should do him in.

Everyone keeps dancing around the real point-to go after the employers who hire the “illegal” immigrants-use substantial fines etc.

  • wolfger  On October 25, 2007 at 6:54 pm

Yes! You’re absolutely right, Gene. Problem is, the Democrats don’t want to get rid of the illegals at all, and the Republicans don’t want to go after the businessmen who fund their campaigns. So the only politically viable solutions will focus on either building a fence (dumb, expensive, ineffective) or granting amnesty (dumb, rewards lawbreakers, punishes law abiding citizens, encourages more illegals to cross). If some politician had the balls to start deporting illegals and punishing the businesses that hire them, the problem would be greatly reduced. Put that’s about as likely to happen as a blizzard in Hell.

i think american dont want mexican cause they will work for less we should be worry about the candain border how came on one talks about it even though you built a bigger fence and add more people they find a way in cause to come to a place where you children can have a future you’ll do anything so all politicians cant do anything about the border problem

I’d like to reply to your comment, but frankly I’m not sure I understand you completely. I take it from your grammar that you are very young and/or English is not your native language.

Yes, it’s true that illegal immigrants will work for less, and that is, in fact, a large part of why we don’t want them here. It raises their standard of living, but it lowers ours, so of course we don’t like it. But that’s not all there is to it. Many Mexicans (as well as other nationalities) come to this country legally. This is good. Nobody is complaining about these people. It is the ones who break the law that are the concern.

Why we do not care about the Canadian border: Frankly, because we don’t have an illegal immigration problem on the Canada border. The difference in the standard of living between there and here is not so great that Canadians will accept extremely low wages, nor will they take the risks of breaking the law.

To the last point I think you’re making, that people will do anything for a chance at a better future for themselves or their children, I think that is quite true. This is why the problem will never be solved until we start punishing the businesses that hire illegals, to get them to stop hiring. Make the future not so pleasant here for those who do not legally belong.

Any problem can be solved. That’s why they keep occurring, to give us something to do.

I wrote an article on my web log this week on this topic. Try taking away their ‘gifts’ for coming here illegally. No auto- matic citizenship for babies born here of border-bandits.

One point I forgot to mention. The Great Wall of China is so large, it can be seen from outer space. Maybe we could use the illegals to build the “Great Wall of America”.
