A fine fine

Read a Slashdot article today that the WTO could levy a fine of up to $100,000,000,000 (yeah, 100 billion… a lot of zeroes) against the USA for its ban of online gambling. The reasoning is that the U.S. is unfairly protecting domestic gambling operations. Now on the surface of it, I’m all kinds of happy about this:
It might cause our boneheads beloved congressmen to drop the dumbass law against online gambling.
It might cause the U.S. to leave the WTO, which would undoubtedly put a damper on the rampant offshoring of U.S. jobs, which would in turn improve our economy.

Sadly, I have little hope that such a fine would be levied or paid. Our national debt is already huge beyond belief… a worldwide organization fining us would be like trying to squeeze blood from a stone. A stone with one hell of an army, and nuclear weapons. Not gonna happen. So my only hope here is that the WTO gets ticked off and embargoes us (again, highly unlikely) or kicks us out (yeah, right), both of which situations stand (in my humble estimation) to actually have a positive effect on the lower and middle classes in this country (and screw the upper class, I mean really…)
