I went to see Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End on Saturday. The first movie is still my favorite of the 3, but this is definitely worth seeing. What can I say about it without spoiling it for those who haven’t seen it yet? Not much. The show is filled with twists and turns, and that is what I think makes it great. And as chaotic as it all seems, it leaves you wondering if Jack Sparrow is just plain lucky, or a master architect (just like in the first two movies, but more so). The effects were much better than in the second movie, but there wasn’t any great swordfighting scene. Oh, don’t get me wrong… there were sword fights all over the place. Just none of it was great, like the fight between Jack and Will in the smith’s shop from the original, or the rolling (literally) 3-way fight in the second movie. It’s like they were getting tired of doing fight choreography, and had run out of ideas. And the third movie was extra-cheesy. Not that the first two weren’t cheesy… this one just goes a little overboard in that department. There were 3 things during the climactic final fight that just made me roll my eyes.
And yes, they left it open for a 4th movie, but the general consensus of the friends I saw it with was that this is the end. Personally, I think Hollywood’s greed will always win in the end.
