Say what?

“I wanted the Colombians to come here to give the Afghans something to aspire to. To instill the fact that they have been doing this for years, and it has worked.”
 — Vincent Balbo, the United States Drug Enforcement Administration chief in Kabul

If Colombia is an example of what “has worked”, I’d hate to see what hasn’t.
Maybe we need to take drastic measures, and legalize these drugs instead. That would lead to an increase in supply, which would cause prices to drop, which would mean less income for terrorists, far fewer killings, and a tax boon to the government. But then some addicts might die, and that would be horrible, wouldn’t it? Oh, wait… addicts are dying already anyway.
