The sad thing here is not that a cop beat a decorated U.S.Navy combat veteran, allegedly with no provocation. The sad thing here is not that it was racially (or religiously) motivated. The sad thing here is not that the cop beat the man in front of his wife and 6 year old child. The sad thing here is that stories like this are not uncommon. It’s getting to the point, rapidly, where people fear and distrust the police, who are supposedly here to protect us. The emergence of “non-lethal” weapons, such as pepper spray and tasers (which do, in fact, lead to death in more cases than anybody’s willing to admit) seems only to make the police more willing to resort to violence, even for minor offences.
