Doc Searls from the Linux Journal (don’t worry, this isn’t a post about Linux) has a proposal that’s interesting. Since the music industry is demanding we pay more for internet music, how about we only pay for the songs we actually like? Why should anybody get anything for forcing bad music down our ear canals? This “Pay4Play” idea would see that only good artists with music people want to listen to actually make money. I think that idea has a lot of merit, and now with internet radio, this sort of payment scheme is feasible. It will be interesting to see how this all pans out, being that there’s some rather unfair laws/regulations to overcome to make this happen.
