Nothing to see here. Move along.

No, really… Nothing.

Did you watch “A Charlie Brown Christmas” last Tuesday night, and think it seemed a bit…shorter than usual? Well, it was. And my friend Leon puts this into word far better than I could have. Please pass on, share, and enjoy. TO: ABC FROM: Leon Lynn RE: Desecration of “A Charlie Brown Christmas” 12/8/09 Dear ABC, How could you? For years and years I have awai […]

    • Jorge Castro: Chromium Builds tracking the Chrome Beta Channel December 11, 2009
Thanks to the bot-like Fabien Tassin there are now Chromium builds of the “Beta Channel” the recent Chrome is based off of. https://launchpad.net/~chromium-daily/+archive/beta/ fta’s original PPA was tracking the Chromium builds every day. So every day it would build new debs. Depending on what landed in upstream Chromium this could be good or bad. This spec […]

    • Mozilla exec urges Firefox users ditch Google for Bing December 11, 2009
Shared by wolfger interesting, considering Firefox has always (as long as I can remember) started up with a Google search page as the home page on a fresh install... Asa Dotzler, Mozilla's director of community development, used his personal blog to urge Firefox users away from Google and to use Microsoft's search engine Bing, instead. Dotzler cite […]

    • Secular Polyamory December 10, 2009
I've got at least three ideas why secularists should embrace polyamory. They're in no particular order of importance or seriousness. Feel free to add suggestions. Any document about polyamoroy should be a WIKI anyway, lest it be antithetical to it's own subject. Or, if you prefer, this idea has room for more love.First and foremost there is th […]

Your password will expire in 5 days

Posted by wolfger on November 3, 2009

Of all the useless things in the realm of computer security, is anything more useless than the “change your password” nag screen? About once a month I get these nags from my company laptop reminding me that I have to change my password soon. So my choices are to either change my password now, or keep getting nagged every day until I’m forced to change the password. Why not just force me to change the password? What’s the purpose of the nag? Does anybody really spend more than a few seconds coming up with their next password?
