No, really… Nothing.

    • CherryPal's $99 "Odd Lots" Netbook December 22, 2009
Shared by wolfger Sweet idea! Robotech_Master writes "CherryPal, which Slashdot last covered back in 2008, has released a $99 netbook, the Africa, aimed at the developing world but (unlike the OLPC) available for sale to the consumer. But unlike most netbooks, the Africa is not actually made to a set design. Instead, it uses a hacker-like approach simil […]

Did I mention that Radio Free Burrito finally grew up and moved into its own URL at Radio Free Burrito dot Com? You can get all 13 of the old Radio Free Burritos (which I've christened "the archives"), as well as two new shows (cleverly numbered 14 and 15) which were recently recorded by me, Wil Wheaton*. My plan is to do a RFB every week in p […]

    • LED traffic lights don't melt snow, do cause accidents December 22, 2009
Shared by wolfger The law of unintended consequences... A number of cold weather American states are reporting their dismay at finding out that LED traffic lights are so energy efficient that they do not produce enough excess heat to dissipate any snow that covers them. It turns out, perhaps in an homage to bad engineering everywhere, that the inefficiency o […]

    • Martin Owens: Random Cartoon: Where is it from? December 19, 2009
I just found this random image from an image search, but I’m not sure where it’s from. Or even what it says, but I presume it’s something to do with “Linux” and windows vista. Although interestingly the first word is Canonical. Translation?

Madeline Ashby sends us this photo of "Elf" toys filed away in the Toys "R" Us "Science" section, noting, "My husband and I braved Toys R' Us on the final Sunday before Christmas to bring the happy mutants this FAIL. Our theory is that Toys R' Us committed a classic logic fallacy: science = nerdy; elves = nerdy; e […]

    • Why I don't (usually) use Windows December 17, 2009
December 11th, 2pm So in late November, I cracked and bought a Vaio P11Z/B as a travel typing machine. (Half price, two year extended warranty thrown in — they were discontinuing it. What can I say?) It's a nice piece of hardware, except for the software. It came running Vista, and lumbered with Sony's usual crapware. There are also fun issues surr […]

    • Something something something awesome weekend December 15, 2009
I had a rather ... interesting ... weekend. According to Paul and Storm on Sunday, I won the game of "What I did last night" that I didn't even know we were playing. It was so surreal, I'm mostly writing this down today so I never forget what an incredible time we had. Saturday, Anne and I were invited to a party at Seth Macfarlane's […]

However, a spokesman for the temple said that the outside world did not understand the life of a contemporary monk. “ […]

Is this politics, or “reality” TV?

Posted by wolfger on October 26, 2009

First some Republican douche yells “Liar!” in the middle of a presidential speech to congress. Now a Democratic representative goes over-the-top on Cheney:

“I have trouble listening to what [Cheney] says sometimes because of the blood that drips from his teeth while he’s talking,” the Florida Democrat said on MSNBC’s Hardball Friday night. “But my response is this: he’s just angry because the president doesn’t shoot old men in the face. But by the way, when he was done speaking, did he just then turn into a bat and fly away?”

It’s funny, but come on… You’ve been elected to do a job, not make jokes and grab the media spotlight. There’s more than enough ways to attack Cheney on merit, without resorting to childish name-calling. But, then again, maybe that’s what the voting public really responds to….

Making a comeback

Posted by wolfger on October 22, 2009

Haven’t been doing much of a lot of things lately. Yesterday I played hold’em again for the fist time in over a month. Won 50-some cents I’m rich. Or, at least, I’m finally over the $5 mark, which means I’ll start playing the nickel tables. So my future wins (and losses) will be bigger.

This morning I went for a serious bike ride (as opposed to casual), also for the first time in over a month. Came home sore, but with a good time. The significant thing is that all my other morning rides came when the dogs woke me up early, which they don’t do anymore. This ride was after my normal wake-up, in lieu of Farmville. I’m hoping Winter holds off a while longer so I can keep the morning rides up.

And this is also my first real blog post in some time, too. I got some flack for just posting quotes…

The hard part is…

Posted by wolfger on October 9, 2009

It’s so easy to fall in love but hard to find someone who will catch you.

Harder yet is to find someone who will keep catching you…

Mutual weirdness

Posted by wolfger on October 7, 2009

We are all a little weird and life’s a little weird, and when we find someone whose weirdness is compatible with ours, we join up with them and fall in mutual weirdness and call it love.
~Author Unknown

…and I’ll comment on that with another quote:

Let me lay it on the line
I got a little freakiness inside
And you know that the man
Has got to deal with it
~Adina Howard, “Freak Like Me” by Sugababes

We see what we want to see…

Posted by wolfger on October 5, 2009

“True love is a discipline in which each divines the secret self of the other and refuses to believe in the mere daily self.”
~William Butler Yeats

And so the answer to “What does she see in him?” is clearly “something you will probably never see”.

Who needs sleep?

Posted by wolfger on October 2, 2009

You know you’re in love when you don’t want to fall asleep because reality is finally better than your dreams.
~Dr. Seuss

Sadly (or thankfully?) this is only true of new love. After a while, sleep becomes important again. Especially when the bills pile up and the job starts early. Romance is great, but not very practical. :-p

No reason required
