Road to better fuel economy?!?

Chrysler has just announced it is coming out with two “Two-Mode” hybrid vehicles in the Fall. We all know hybrid vehicles get great mileage, right? Yes sir… These vehicle offer a whopping 25% better fuel efficiency (40% better for city driving) over the non-hybrid versions. So what are we talking about here? 35 MPG? 40? No! A stunning 20 MPG!!! Yes, that’s right, 20 MPG. The same rate my gas guzzling non-hybrid Jeep Wrangler currently gets. You too can have 20 MPG if you buy the hybrid versions of the 2009 Chrysler Aspen HEMI or 2009 Dodge Durango HEMI.
Why does Chrysler not seem to understand that people want fuel efficient vehicles now? That 20 MPG may be a big improvement for that vehicle, but it’s still poor gas mileage. The people willing to pay extra for a hybrid (I’m assuming the hybrid will cost more) are not typically the people who would buy such a fuel inefficient vehicle in the first place. At least, that’s my thought. I could be wrong. I’ve never run a struggling automobile company before. (Oh, wait… neither has their current CEO!)
